Interests

I have quite a few interests, some of which are full blown hobbies, others are merely things that I feel an attraction toward but don't really bother getting involved with.

Computers

Computer machines enthrall me. In addition to tinkering with the hardware, I have a passing interest in software, networking and storage. I have a reasonable interest in DVD media, that is, burnt DVDs and the underlying media blank media. High-quality DVD media is an important thing to keep on hand for those important backup situations, such as digital photos, Uni work or other important stuff.

My role at work is largely associated with relieving common user problems, and I am quite proficient in that. A large number of the problems are related to networking given that it is the only way to connect to the internet on the University campus. I like to solve people's problems and believe I have a high success and satisfaction rate.

Art

I've covered some of the stuff I do in Creativity. I like to take photos, create panoramas and work in vector.

Languages

I have an high degree of interest in foreign languages. I can speak German in addition to English though it is getting rusty. I learned Japanese for five years in high school and did quite well with that. I can speak sporadic phrases in French and Russian (but please don't ask me to have a conversation unless it's about "Where is the toilet?" and "Do you speak English?").

Design

I particularly like designs which are utilitarian, sleek and engaging. I think it's both important to feel at ease with your surroundings, but also to minimise your surrounding's components to a minimum. My personal philosophy is to eschew outward over-complexity, even if something is complex underneath. It's good to have things which blend in to make life easier but not more distracting.

Music

A great deal of my life is filled with music, though it's usually taking a second place to whatever I am doing at the time. I don't sit down to listen to a specific album very often. I've been to a few concerts while living in Brisbane, ranging from punk rock to emo to Ben Folds in concert with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Clocks & Pens

My guilty pleasures. I've managed to suppress any urge to buy either of these things for almost a year now.

Law

While of course I should be interested in this because it's my degree, I have a side interest in branches of law that are either emerging or undergoing rapid development because of our crazy times. These include intellectual property law and privacy law.
